Pada Rabu (17/3/2021), Afgan mengumumkan kabar baik tersebut di akun Instagram miliknya. Saat mengunggah foto dirinya dan Jackson, Afgan mengumumkan bahwa M.I.A akan dirilis pada 19 Maret besok.

Menurut informasi, lagu M.I.A telah digarap oleh Afgan dan Jackson sejak tahun lalu. Namun, karena pandemi COVID-19, mereka baru bisa merilisnya tahun ini.
